Wire and cable recycling in Cape May County
Insulated wire prices
THHN, Romex, extension cords, data cable, BX and wiring harnesses. Insulated wire is priced by how much copper or aluminum is inside it.
Wire is graded by what’s inside
Every type of insulated wire has a different “recovery,” the share of its weight that’s actual metal. Thick, single-conductor wire like THHN is mostly copper, so it pays a lot per pound. Thin cords and Christmas lights are mostly plastic, so they pay less.
Electricians, cable installers and remodelers bring us wire from job sites, and homeowners bring old extension cords, appliance cords and holiday lights. We buy all of it.
Bring your material Monday–Friday, 8 AM–4 PM, in a vehicle with a valid license plate, along with a valid state-issued photo ID. No appointment needed.
Grades we buy
- THHN wire. Single-conductor building wire with thin nylon-coated insulation. High copper content.
- Romex wire. Non-metallic sheathed house wire (NM-B), typically two or three conductors plus ground.
- Insulated copper wire. Mixed insulated copper wire and cable, including extension and appliance cords.
- Data cable. Cat 5/Cat 6 and other communication cable.
- Steel BX with wire. Armored cable with a steel jacket and copper wire inside.
- Aluminum BX with wire. Armored cable with an aluminum jacket and copper wire inside.
- Insulated aluminum wire. Aluminum service and feeder cable with insulation.
- Clean aluminum wire. Bare, stripped aluminum wire with no steel core.
- Car wiring harnesses. Automotive wiring with connectors still attached.
- Christmas lights. Strings of holiday lights, bulbs and all.
How to get the best price
- Sort by type. Keep THHN, Romex, cords and data cable in separate bundles. Mixed wire is paid at the lower grade.
- Cut off plugs and fixtures when it’s easy; heavy plugs and attachments add weight.
- Strip only heavy wire. Thick wire stripped to bare bright copper can be worth the effort. For thin wire, your time is usually worth more than the difference.
- Never burn wire. Burning insulation is illegal, releases toxic smoke and lowers the grade of the copper.

Wire questions
Should I strip my copper wire before selling it?
Only heavy-gauge wire is usually worth stripping. Bare bright copper pays more per pound, but thin wire takes a long time to strip and loses little value as insulated wire. Bring thin wire, cords and cable as they are.
Do you buy Christmas lights?
Yes. Old holiday light strings are bought as insulated wire. Bring them in a bag or box; there’s no need to untangle them.
What is THHN wire?
THHN is single-conductor copper building wire with a thin plastic and nylon jacket. Because it’s mostly copper, it’s one of the highest-paying insulated wire grades.
Can I burn the insulation off?
No. Burning wire is illegal, creates toxic smoke and damages the copper. Bring it insulated or strip it mechanically.
