Copper recycling in Cape May County

Scrap copper prices

Copper is the most valuable metal most people bring us. Bare bright wire, copper pipe and tubing, sheet copper and copper-bearing motors all pay. Here’s how we grade it and what we’re paying today.

Sell your copper in Dennisville

Plumbers, electricians, HVAC contractors and homeowners bring us copper every day. Whether it’s a bucket of pipe cut-offs from a bathroom remodel or a spool of stripped wire, we sort it by grade, weigh it and pay you promptly.

Copper is priced by how clean it is. Shiny, unalloyed copper with nothing attached is worth the most. Paint, solder, fittings, insulation and tarnish move it down a grade, so a few minutes of sorting can noticeably raise your payout.

Bring your material Monday–Friday, 8 AM–4 PM, in a vehicle with a valid license plate, along with a valid state-issued photo ID. No appointment needed.

Grades we buy

  • Bare bright copper. Clean, bright, unalloyed and uncoated copper wire, 16 gauge or thicker, stripped of all insulation. No tarnish, solder or tin. Our top copper price.
  • #1 copper tubing. Clean, unalloyed copper pipe and tubing with no solder, paint, fittings or insulation. Light tarnish is fine.
  • #2 copper tubing. Copper pipe with solder, paint, light corrosion or fittings still attached. Still good money, just less than #1.
  • Sheet copper (clean). Clean copper sheet, flashing and roofing copper without tar, nails or coatings.
  • Tin-coated copper. Copper wire or sheet with a silver-colored tin coating.
  • Lead-coated copper. Lead-coated sheet copper (often old roofing and flashing) and lead-coated copper wire.
  • Electric motors. Whole motors containing copper windings, such as from fans, pumps and power tools.
  • Lighting ballasts. Fluorescent light ballasts.

How to get the best price

  • Cut off brass and steel. Brass valves and steel fittings soldered onto copper pipe drop it to a lower grade. Cut them off and bring them separately; the brass pays on its own.
  • Keep #1 and #2 apart. Put clean pipe in one bucket and soldered or painted pipe in another.
  • Strip thick wire. Heavy-gauge wire is often worth stripping to bare bright. Thin wire usually isn’t; bring it as insulated wire.
  • Remove insulation from tubing. Foam and rubber pipe insulation adds weight we can’t pay for.

Copper questions

Bare bright is clean, shiny, unalloyed copper wire with all insulation removed and no tarnish, paint, solder or coating. It must be about 16 gauge or thicker. It’s the highest-paying copper grade.

#1 copper is clean, uncoated copper pipe or heavy wire with nothing attached. #2 copper has solder, paint, light corrosion, fittings or a coating. Both pay well; #1 pays more per pound.

Copper is reddish; brass is yellow. If the surface is dirty, scratch it with a file: a red-orange color means copper, a yellow color means brass.
