Brass recycling in Cape May County

Scrap brass prices

Faucets, valves, plumbing fittings, keys, hardware and shell casings. Brass is a copper alloy, so it pays well, especially when it’s kept clean and separate.

What counts as brass

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. The zinc makes it harder and gives it its yellow color. The more copper in the mix, the redder the brass and the more it’s worth. That’s why red brass pays more than yellow brass.

Plumbers’ and contractors’ brass usually comes as a mix of fittings, valves and fixtures. Separating it from copper and steel is the single best way to raise your payout.

Bring your material Monday–Friday, 8 AM–4 PM, in a vehicle with a valid license plate, along with a valid state-issued photo ID. No appointment needed.

Grades we buy

  • Yellow brass. Plumbing fittings, valves, faucets, keys, door hardware, lamps and decorative brass. The most common grade.
  • Red brass. Higher-copper brass and bronze, such as water meters, gate valves and some pump parts. Red brass is reddish-gold rather than yellow.
  • Brass shells. Spent brass shell casings, empty and free of lead.

How to get the best price

  • Separate it from copper. Brass valves left on copper pipe lower the copper’s grade, and the brass pays well on its own.
  • Remove steel handles and screws. Use a magnet to check for steel parts.
  • Keep red and yellow apart if you can tell them apart; red brass pays more.
  • Chrome-plated fixtures are usually brass underneath. Scratch an inconspicuous spot to check.

How to tell brass from copper

Brass is yellow; copper is red. If you can’t tell, take a file and scratch the surface. A reddish color means copper. A yellow color means brass. The more yellow the metal, the more zinc it contains.
